Danny Spice got into music at an early age and at the tender age of twelve received his first set of turntables, a hand me down from a family friend. Before long Danny was on London pirate radio and at the age of eighteen set out to record a project and release it off his own back. Two years later and he completed the album and earned some credible reviews from Hip-Hop Connection and Knowledge Magazine, as well as radio play on BBC1Xtra from Rodney P & Skitz. Danny then went to work at his local record shop Tiger Style Records where he met Lewis Parker and made a real connection, helping to lay down the original foundations for his own record label Carry On Going Records.
While working at the store he started a club night called Back 2 Da Tru Skool holding emcee battles & open mic sessions, bringing acts such as Tommy Evans & turntablist DJ Blakey to town. The success of the night led to Danny being approached by Rhythms Of The World, the largest free world music festival in Europe, to organize the Hip Hop stage where he booked acts such as Skandal (Rewd Adams), Vapor, Manage, Richy Pitch & former US3 member Tukka, amongst others. In 2006 the store decided to set up a label with its first release being a Danny Spice track produced by Lewis Parker. Unfortunately this never materialized because the shop & label ceased trading towards the end of the year due to falling record sales.
It was at this point that Danny knew he needed to start his own label and in 2008 Carry On Going Records was born, landing a deal with Boombox Distribution. In the summer of 2008 the label released his Lewis Parker produced banger ‘Down & Out’ before releasing the labels second release, a 12” single entitled ‘Money’ produced by DJ Juice from Pepa Records, in 2009. Since then Danny has become resident host for Lincolnshire club night Time To Throw as well as putting the finishing touches to his debut album “King Amongst Thieves” set for release toward the end of 2011. The album features Craig G, Dizzy Dustin of Ugly Duckling fame, Oxygen of Sputnik Brown who all feature alongside many more on this production based album.
Now vinyl purists Carry On Going Records bring you a slice of undiluted boom bap beats laced with hard knock rhymes from NY’s finest to keep us going until the album is released. “King Of The Beat” sees the Juice Crew legend Craig G droppin’ science over a drum heavy drama & suspense style track. With bars such as “Queens Bridge to UK/dudes say they make beats/but compared to us/you just coming wit dat fake heat”, Craig’s lines pay respect to both the producer as well as the age old art of crate digging. Having worked with the likes of Marley Marl, Large Professor, Pete Rock & DJ Premier it’s no wonder the NY battle rapper is still going strong after 25 years in the business. No added preservatives here just pure uncut Hip Hop in its purist form some break beats, turn tables a sampler and an ill MC job done.
The limited edition individually hand numbered 300 pressing of the 7inch vinyl release has almost sold out in a matter of days, which gives you some indication of how big this track actually is! This is real Hip-Hop that bands from start to finish produced by a talented beat-maker! Make sure you are on the lookout for the full length album from Danny Spice being released on Carry On Going Records real soon. So if you like your Hip Hop classic but at the same time current, then Danny Spice is most definitely a guy to keep an eye out for in the future. Watch this space!!!
